Lancée en 1964 afin de faire une transition entre la Giulia Spider et le Duetto qui n'est pas encore prêt, la Giulia GTC est un cabriolet 4 places extrapolé du coupé Giulia GT. C'est à Touring qu'est confiée la réalisation de la carrosserie et seuls quelques 1000 exemplaires seront ainsi produits. L'exemplaire présenté est une rare version française d'origine, vendu par la SOFAR le 17 mars 1965 et immatriculée dans les Hauts de Seine. En 1984, elle est achetée par le célèbre chanteur Philippe Lavil qui l’a conservée jusqu’en 2011. En 2019 le propriétaire actuel l’acquiert et entreprend, en 2021, une restauration complète et sans considération de coût. La voiture fut entièrement démontée et la carrosserie refaite et repeinte en gris souris pour un total de plus de 42 000 €. La mécanique fut entièrement refaite chez VEC Racing à Villeneuve la Garenne pour 23 000 € et tout le faisceau électrique et ses composants sont neufs, refaits par Classic Auto Elec pour 7500 €, soit un total de 72 500 €. Quelques améliorations mécaniques invisibles ont été apportés telles que l’ajout d’un allumage électronique 123, d’un démarreur haute performance et d’une dynamo renfermant un véritable alternateur. La voiture est toujours équipée de son moteur d’origine et un dossier de photos et de factures témoignent des travaux réalisés. La sonorité envoutante du 4 cylindres à double arbre à cames en tête a dû ravir les tympans de Philippe Lavil, à l’instar du trompettiste Chet Baker qui ne jurait que par cette marque. Rare et désirable, cette authentique et rare GTC mérite qu'un amateur de la marque l’accueille dans sa collection.

Introduced in 1964 to bridge the gap between the Giulia Spider and the Duetto, which was not yet ready, the Giulia GTC is a four-seater convertible based on the Giulia GT coupe. Touring was entrusted with the production of the bodywork, and only about 1,000 units were produced. The vehicle here is a rare original French-market model, sold by SOFAR on 17th March 1965, and registered in the Hauts-de-Seine department. In 1984, it was purchased by the famous singer Philippe Lavil, who kept it until 2011. In 2019, the current owner purchased it and, in 2021, undertook a complete restoration with no regard to cost. The car was entirely disassembled, and the bodywork was rebuilt and repainted in mouse gray at a total cost of over €42,000. The mechanics were completely overhauled at VEC Racing in Villeneuve-la-Garenne at a cost of €23,000, and the entire wiring harness and its components are brand new, replaced by Classic Auto Elec for €7,500, making a total restoration cost of €72,500. A few unseen mechanical enhancements were made, such as the addition of a 123 electronic ignition system, a high-performance starter motor, and a generator that incorporates a true alternator. The car is still fitted with its original engine, and comes with a collection of photos and invoices to document the work that has been done. The captivating sound of the 4-cylinder DOHC engine must have been music to Philippe Lavil’s ears, just as it was to those of the trumpeter Chet Baker, who swore by this brand. Rare and highly sought-after, this authentic and rare GTC deserves pride of place in the collection of any true fan.
