La fascination de Marion Boehm pour les échanges culturels remonte à son enfance. Née à Duisburg-Rheinhausen, en Allemagne, en 1964, elle a passé une dizaine d’années travailler pour Lufthansa, explorant les divers paysages du monde. Son mode de vie nomade et son exposition à diverses cultures ont jeté les bases de ses projets artistiques ultérieurs. En 2010, elle déménage en Afrique du Sud et s’installe à Johannesburg. Cette transition a marqué un tournant dans sa vie, l’orientant vers un nouveau chapitre d’exploration artistique.

Le portrait d’Evans Mbuga s’inscrit dans une série que Marion Boehm consacre aux artistes qu’elle a rencontrés au fil des années. A l’image de ceux réalisés de Barthélémy Toguo et Serge Attukwei Clottey, cette œuvre témoigne son intérêt pour d’autres artistes (figures majeures de la scène contemporaine africaine) et d’autres parcours qui viennent nourrir sa réflexion artistique. Au-delà d’un hommage, ce portrait incarne également une rencontre et célèbre l’aura des artistes de manière plus globale.

Marion Boehm’s fascination with cultural exchange dates back to her childhood. Born in Duisburg-Rheinhausen, Germany, in 1964, she spent about ten years working for Lufthansa, exploring the diverse landscapes of the world. Her nomadic lifestyle and exposure to various cultures laid the foundation for her later artistic projects. In 2010, she moved to South Africa and settled in Johannesburg. This transition marked a turning point in her life, steering her toward a new chapter of artistic exploration. 

The portrait of Evans Mbuga is part of a series that Marion Boehm has dedicated to the artists she has met over the years. Like those of Barthélémy Toguo and Serge Attukwei Clottey, this work reflects her interest in other artists (leading figures in the contemporary African art scene) and other artistic journeys that enrich her creative practice. Beyond a tribute, this portrait also embodies an encounter and celebrates the aura of artists in a broader sense.
